River Legacy Park

River Legacy Park was founded in 1976 following generous donations of land to the city of Arlington. However, the land that it occupies has borne witness to a great deal of history, some of which is marked by unpleasant events. A number of ghosts reputedly haunt the area.

A mound known as Hell's Gate can be found at the end of a long trail. The mound gained its name from the two gateposts there. Acording to sources, Union spies from the Civil War were escorted down this path and hung from a tree, and as a result the sounds of the crying of unfortunate souls can be heard here.

A fatal car accident on a bridge here has also led to claims of unusual visual phenomena in the river beneath it.

Finally, the spectre of a murdered hobo has been sighted in the more secluded areas. Apparently the phantom likes to tap on the car windows of young romantic couples. Not what you'd want to happen!
