Driskill Hotel

The Driskill is a Romanesque-style hotel built by Col. Jesse Driskill, a cattleman who spent his fortune constructing what he believed would be "the finest hotel south of St. Louis". It was completed in 1886, and is the oldest operating hotel in Austin, and according to some the most haunted in Texas.

Apparitions allegedly sighted here include the founder, Jesse Driskill; Peter J. Lawless who resided at the hotel between 1886 and 1916; a former female employee who worked the front desk in Victorian times; a little girl who slipped and fell down the stairs in 1887 whilst she was running after a ball; a young woman carrying shopping bags stepping from the elevator; and another female wearing a bridal gown.

Audible phenomena include a girls laughter, footsteps and the bouncing of a ball - all said to be remnants of the child above. The smell of cigar smoke has also been reported, and this has been attributed to Jesse Driskill. Objects have also reported to have been moved in guest rooms.
