Gold Brook Covered Bridge, also known as Stowe Hollow Bridge and Emily's Bridge after the ghost story, is a small wooden covered bridge, spanning Gold Brook. It was constructed in 1844, and is the only 19th-century covered bridge in Vermont built using wooden Howe trusses and carrying a public roadway. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
It is reputedly haunted by the ghost of Emily Smith, a young girl who hung herself from the bridge when her lover failed to meet her in their plan to elope, sometime around 1849. People report that she is often in a vengeful mood - scratching people, hitting cars on the bridge and screaming. Her apparition is described as "something straight out of a nightmare".
Some paranormal investigators claim to have obtained EVP recordings of Emily.
