Abigail's Grille and Wine Bar (or The Pettibone Tavern as it is still often known as), has a long, historic legacy. It was built in 1780 to serve as the first stagecoach stop outside of Hartford on the Boston to Albany Turnpike. It was used as a meeting place during the Revolutionary War, and it is thought that the first two presidents of the United States stayed at the tavern during their travels between Boston, New York and Philadelphia.
It is reputedly haunted by the apparition Abigail Pettibone who was allegedly murdered there during the 1800's; a woman described as a "tavern wench"; and a little boy that waves at people from an upstairs window.
Other phenomena include a feeling of presence, phantom footsteps, furniture being moved, objects being found in usual locations when the building was opened up after being secured the previous night.
