Copper Queen Hotel

The Copper Queen Hotel is the longest continously operating hotel in Arizona, having been open since it was built in 1902. During that time, many famous faces have graced its suites, including John Wayne, Lee Marvin, Michelle Pfieffer, Julia Roberts, Keifer Sutherland and First Lady Nancy Reagan. It is also reputed to be haunted.

Apparitions include that of one Julia Lowell, a lady of the night that once reputedly "worked" here possibly in the 1920's (there is a suite named after her in the hotel). Some have suggested she is responsible for a female voice whispering in the ear of staff and guests. Witnesses have reported seeing her dancing in a provocative manner at the foot of the stairs. Another ghost is that of a young boy named Billy.

Other phenomena include the smell of cigar smoke, movement of objects, the sounds of a childs laughter in the hallways, an invisible presence jumping on furniture.

Amateur paranormal investigators have claimed to have obtained EVP's and have had dubious readings on K-II meters (see the section on Ghost Hunting for more information).
